Inspire 2 Work Programme
The Inspire to Work programme is an employability programme for Year 10 and 11 (age 14-16) students at Woodbridge Park Education service - an alternative provision school in Hounslow that serves some of the most vulnerable young people in the Borough. Students at the school have been excluded from mainstream education for a variety of reasons and have severe barriers to transitions into sustained education, employment or training. We are seeking employers who may be able to provide volunteers to support the programme through:
- Hosting a student on an work-experience internship one-day a week (Thursdays) between October 2024-May 2025 (excluding school holidays). Some students will not be able to attend for the duration of this period, but the aim is for the students to develop the confidence and skills to attend the work-experience internship each week for as long as they are able, supported by Spark! staff. As an example, some students this year have attended for 13 weeks, but some students were unable to sustain their placements for longer than 5 weeks.
If you are unable to host a student on an internship, you can support the programme in other ways, such as by:
- Giving a 30 minute-1 hour talk or presentation about your organisation/sector in the school, to help the students learn about different roles and routes into work.
- Running a short activity/ workshop in school to help develop student employability skills? For example this may include a practical challenge or activity that will help the students learn about the sector.
- Hosting an insight visit at your workplace for a small group (5-10 students) from the school. This will be supported by Spark! staff and for a small cohort of students, giving them an opportunity to explore and feel comfortable in a work-place environment.
